Karatsu-yaki

Produced in Saga. The most produced pottery in western Japan.
Believed to have started in the 16th century.
Greatly influenced by Korean potters.
There are diversity such as Egaratsu known as the painting with ferrous pigment of the dark brown, Madarakaratsu of a blue spot, Mishimakaratsu.
Many of them are chubby things as sprinkled thick glaze in rather coarse soil.
Production area is here.

This bowl is pretty however the brushwork is too contemporary to be considered true Karatsu-yaki.
